Case Study
Building the Candy Cloud Experience: A Full Gut Renovation at Lennox Town Center
Location
Lennox Town Center, Columbus, Ohio
Project Type
Commercial Tenant Build-Out — Full Gut Renovation
Size
~2,000 sq ft
The Project
When the Candy Cloud franchise signed a lease at Lennox Town Center, one of Columbus’ most active mixed use developments, they needed a contractor who could take a former café down to the studs and build something entirely new.
Columbus Building Co. was brought in to execute a full gut renovation, transforming the vacant shell into a high-end specialty drink experience built around brand identity, customer flow, and meticulous craftsmanship.
The project was designed in partnership with MZA Architecture based in Nashville, Tennessee, requiring close coordination across state lines from day one.

The Scope of Work
This was not a simple build-out. Candy Cloud required a complete overhaul of every system in the space, including:
Underground Plumbing
Concrete slab cut and poured back to accommodate new underground plumbing and grease interceptor system.
Full Electrical Rewire
High-output circuits to support high-tech commercial kitchen equipment.
HVAC
New ductwork throughout to support the new layout and exposed open ceiling design.
Fire Suppression
Sprinkler head placement reconfigured after the existing ceiling was removed to achieve the open ceiling look.
Commercial Kitchen Equipment Installation
Full kitchen buildout including all equipment connections.
Custom Ombré Tile Wall
A gradient feature wall blending three tile types, creating a distinctive focal point at the POS area.
Custom recessed LED Signage
The Candy Cloud logo sign custom-framed and set flush into the wall.
Custom Millwork
Built-in bench seating with custom leather upholstered cushions, a custom TV menu board wall housing 5 screens, and a POS counter with countertops.
Ambient and Accent Lighting
Full lighting package including custom LED installations throughout.
Hardwired Speaker System
In-ceiling audio with a back-of-house receiver.
Epoxy Floor System
Non-slip epoxy installed in the kitchen, an upgrade Columbus Building Co. provided at cost after identifying a safety concern with the originally specied sealed concrete.
ACT Drop Ceiling
Acoustical ceiling tile installed in the kitchen and hallway.
FRP Paneling
Fiberglass reinforced panels in the kitchen to meet health department requirements.
Flooring and Drywall
New flooring and drywall throughout the entire space.
The Challenge
As a growing franchise concept, Candy Cloud worked with an established architectural and engineering firm based in Tennessee. Coordinating with an out-of state firm on a local build introduced some complexity, particularly around ensuring everything aligned with Columbus-specific codes and conditions on the ground.
Columbus Building Co. worked closely with the team throughout the process, conducting field engineering and flagging items early to keep the project on track.
The Result
Candy Cloud at Lennox Town Center opened on November 20, 2025, fully on brand and ready for customers. The finished space reflects what happens when field experience, clear communication, and a strong attention to detail come together to deliver a high quality result everyone can be proud of.
